4th Intra school Taekwondo Championship held at Bajothang HSS,Wangdue
The 4th Intra Taekwondo Championship was held at Bajothang HSS,Wangdue on 9th -10th October .Almost 135 students from 11schools within the Dzongkhag participated in the Tournament. According to the chief coordinator of the Tournament, Mr. Tshering Wangdi, he said that the tournament is mainly conducted to promote Taekwondo in Bhutan. Similar kind of tournaments are conducted in all the Dzongkhags with grant from BTF(Bhutan Taekwondo Federation) specially to come up with standard national team.
According to the coordinator, Mr.Yeshey Dhendup from BHSS, the other purpose of conducting the tournament is to select best players so that they can challenge during Dzongkhag level and national level championship which will be held in winter.
The Tournament was conducted with the financial support from BTF and with prior permission from the Dzongkhag Administration. The body weight ranging from 25 kg-64 kg for both boys and girls were categorized into two levels such as junior and senior levels. The officials were all the coaches who were the national players long time. According to the chief Jury, Mr. Dawa Tshering from CNR, he said that the increase in the number of interested students in different schools can easily led towards the building of standard national team in near future. “So far, Bhutan has been doing good in international levels and I hope if very young students participate in such tournaments, our country will really make a history one day”, said Mr. Dendup Tshering, the referee/judge of the tournament who presently work as RBA coach.
The two days tournament was carried out successfully .So many spectators witnessed the tournament including the parents and teachers from various schools and organizations’. One of the parent told that he is really happy to see his daughter with gold medal on the victory stand.
“If all the parents and teachers cooperate to let children participate in such sports rather than having negative notion about Taekwondo, we all can promote this sports in a very positive way” said Mr. Kinzang Thinley who presently work as BBS cemraman.
The second day was very crucial for both the players. Both the players are at the top and whoever wins secures gold medal. “I am quite nervous” said Dawa,7 years old boy from Tencholing Pry School who is going to challenge 10 years old boy from Samtengang PS in junior FIN weight category. The final day was graced by the chief guest, Dasho Dzongrab and sector heads from the Dzongkhag..The individual medals and certificates were awarded by the honorable chief guest.
The winning trophy was begged by Samtengang Middle Secondary School with 4 Gold, 7 Silver and 9 Bronze medals.
Gaselo Higher Secondary School in second place with 4 Gold, 10 Silver and no Bronze.
The third place was taken by Gaselo Lower Secondary School with 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 10 Bronze Medals.
